Project Update: Aura, “A Student Who Strives To Succeed”
Here’s the latest update about Aura Hernandez, this site’s namesake. Thanks to Aura’s House donations last December, she is able to attend a high school in Guatemala City (her village school only goes up to 8th grade) and is working on earning a teaching certificate so she can fulfill her dream of being an elementary school teacher in her community.
Children International visited Aura at her new school and she is progressing wonderfully. Below is a status report from Children International’s Vickie Wiedenmann.

Aura is sitting in the first row, second from the right.
“The staff recently visited Aura at her school and also had a chance to visit with the School Director. The Director told our staff that Aura is “a student who strives to succeed!” I think we all knew that already!
Aura told our staff that she works hard and enjoys learning more about the tools and techniques to educate children. She stays very busy with her school activities and homework, and she understands that her success depends a great deal on her own hard work and efforts. She once again expressed her thanks to you, Kristen, and everyone else who has made all of this possible for her!
I hope you enjoy the photo and thanks again to all! Vickie”

I’m so proud of her. We’ll be raising funds for her second year of tuition for 2010 in November. It costs $1,200 but luckily we already have over $300 raised from overflow funds from last December’s fundraiser.
