Aura Yesenia Solis Hernandez (17) -Teacher in Training Thanks to Your Donations!
This is Aura’s sponsor, Kristen here. I just wanted to share with you the amazing news from a recent letter I received from Children International.
Aura is now a teacher in training and already working with children in the classroom! Since Aura was 9 years-old she had written to me that her dream was to one day become a teacher. Unfortunately in her village, school only goes up to the eighth grade. Luckily we launched Aura’s Tuition Project in 2008 to help send her to a private school in Guatemala City where she would attend a three year course and obtain a teaching certificate. Thanks to Aura’s House donors, tuition for 2009 and 2010 has been raised. This project is almost complete with only $161 left to raise for the 2011 school year which starts in January 2011. I have been sponsoring Aura since she was 9 years old and as you may already know she was the inspiration for me to start this site. In 2003 I wanted to raise funds to buy her and her family a safe, sturdy brick home instead of the leaky mud shack they were in and thanks to the help of Dolores Kitchen, Vickie Wiedenmann, and later Greg Jones among others at Children International, this site was launched in 2004 and $4500 was raised for their new home. View our very first project.
Here is the most recent letter and drawing I have received from Aura. I’ll be sure to post more updates as I get them. Thank you again to all who helped make Aura’s dream come true!
This just in as of October 14, 2010:
Vickie Wiedenmann of Children International Writes:
Hi, Kristen -- and everyone else! I hope everyone is doing well. I'm attaching a few photos of Aura that I just received from our office in Guatemala. The photos were taken during a recent computer class which Aura is taking. I hope you enjoy them! The agency confirmed that all of Aura's classes for the remainder of calendar 2010 have been paid for in full ... Thanks to you! And, Aura is doing well in classes and is looking forward to becoming an elementary school teacher. She told our staff that she is working hard for you and her parents -- and wants all of you to be proud of her! Thanks so much, Kristen, for your continued support of this young lady. You're truly giving her a remarkable opportunity to better her future! Vickie
