An Update on Aura Yesenia (18), Student Teacher

1 August 2011 4 Comments

We recently received photos from Children International showing Aura as a Student Teacher in her village in Guatemala. You might remember that thanks to Aura’s House donors, Aura was able to continue her education beyond the 8th grade (the highest education available in her small village) and will soon be graduating from a special teacher’s certification course that will finish in December of 2011. Visit Aura’s Tuition Project.

Thanks to the kind donation of Aura’s House Partner, Anastasia Yecke, in 2012 Aura will continue her education and become a University Student while also teaching as a certified teacher in her village! And for those of you new to our site, yes… this is THE Aura. The one who started it all with our very first House Project back in 2004.

Vickie Wiedenmann of Children International writes:

Hello, everyone. I hope everyone is doing well! I just received the
attached photographs of Aura -- who was very proud to show off the new
"teacher's practice suit" that she received recently.

Our staff has informed us that she is studying hard, and has, in fact,
started her "teacher's practice" (what we would call student teaching
here in the States), in a school close to her community. She is
teaching from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon on a daily basis, and then attends
classes herself from 1:00 to 5:00 pm every day. She's working hard to
make all of you very proud!

I hope you enjoy the photos!

As Aura’s sponsor, I have to say that the sight of this young adult ready to take on the world really gives me goosebumps. I’m so proud of all she has accomplished and even more proud that she intends to help both her family and community with her new career.

Thanks once again to every single one of the donors at Aura’s House for making Aura Yesenia’s, and so many others’ dreams come true!

WOW, that’s so exciting; a dream to come true both for Aura and for you, Kristen! You’re an excellent role model for Aura and you’ve been there for her from the very beginning. Aura’s becoming what she wants to be only thanks to you, her dedicated sponsor and friend. That’s an incredible achievement which will enable her to help not only her family but the entire community! I wish my sponsored children to achieve at least a half of that of Aura. 🙂

Aw shucks! Thanks Inga. The years have just flown by. It seems like only yesterday she was 9 years-old and living in a mud house. She has been such an inspiration and I do hope one day we will meet in person again.

What a joy to see these pictures! It was an incredible experience traveling to Guatemala with you to meet Aura and her loving family. Time has really flown by, and the continued dedication of the two of you throughout the years is really a testament to the character of you both. XOXO

Oh my, look at her! She looks so grown up – you must have felt so excited and proud when you saw these photos. She’s really working hard and seems quite motivated. It’s wonderful everything you’ve been able to do for Aura and her family. You’ve really made a lasting difference – and I hope a lasting friendship!
