Aura’s House Fall 2011 Newsletter

6 October 2011 No Comment
Hello. We hope you are enjoying this beautiful autumn and that all is well. We wanted to update you on what we have been up to these last few months at Aura’s House.

We are currently raffling off a $100 Amazon Gift Card OR a $100 donation to the Charity or Firstgiving Project of your choice to help fund a Home Construction Project for two special children and their immediate family. We would like you to meet Evelyn (11) and Francisco (8), siblings from Cartagena, Colombia who live with thirteen family members in terrible living conditions. Their family is desperately poor and conditions are cramped, hot, and humid. We aim to build a sturdy all-purpose room for Evelyn and Francisco to give them more safety and privacy. All you need to do to enter the raffle is donate at least $10 to this project up until October 15, 2011 at 5PM EST.

What else are we currently working on? Well, a USA Community Education Project to start. This is Aura’s House’s very first project to benefit children in the USA. The goal is to purchase books and education materials to create a Mentor Resource Library for the UARL Children International’s Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Library would benefit public school students and would encourage youth to pursue higher education and excel in all areas of academics. (Only $235 Left to Raise!)

We’re also working on a new Medical and Income Generation project for Abraham (8) of Honduras. Abraham is facing severe malnutrition due to his family’s lack of income. Abraham’s mother is unable to find work because she has to stay home to care for her special needs daughter. Her only income comes from operating a small store out of her home, selling a few basic items to support her big family. This project aims to provide Abraham with vitamins, supplements, and food to improve his health and to purchase items to sell in the store that would increase the family’s income and help Abraham’s mother to provide for her seven children.

Also since our last summer newsletter, we are happy to let you know that we have completed the following projects:

  • Emergency Income Generation project for Jenelyn (4) of the Philippines by helping the family with various things such as schooling costs, basic household necessities and selling goods from a push cart
  • Home improvements for Ella (18) of the Philippines by adding two new rooms to their cramped quarters
  • Tuition Project for Christopher (8) and his sister Judy (7) of Zambia who were previously unable to continue school due to the lack of funds.

What else is new? Check out new photos of our site’s namesake, Aura Yesenia Solis Hernadez (18) as she completes her highschool education and begins student teaching. We also recently welcomed our newest volunteer, Mats Andersson of Sweden and said farewell to our summer intern, Elise Cevetello of Boston, MA. who helped the site in numerous ways. Finally, meet our latest featured donor, Manikandan N. of the USA.

There’s much more going on too. We hope you will stop by and see everything we have been up to recently at http://aurashouse.com!

Best wishes from Kristen, Anastasia, Mike, Christina, Courtenay, Heather, Inga, and the Aura’s House Team
