COMPLETE: Tuition Project for Jeinny Nicole (7) of Honduras: $242.25 raised total! Thank-you!
Tuition Project for Jeinny Nicole (7) of San Pedro Sula, Honduras
This Project is now completed as of December 16, 2011. Launched November 9, 2011
Our goal is to raise $230.
$242.25 raised! Thanks so much!
Jeinny (7) lives in one of the poorest neighborhoods of San Pedro Sula, Honduras with her mother, stepfather and four siblings. Unfortunately, due to her family’s lack of income, they are unable to send Jeinny to school. The school fees are totaling $230 per school year. The funds are needed no later than mid-January 2012 to ensure that they reach Honduras in time for enrollment. This donation will be used to provide Jeinny with school uniforms, shoes and school supplies so she could be enrolled in the second grade. Also, Jeinny is going to be receiving funds for her transportation every month. We aim to raise $230 for uniforms, shoes, socks, school supplies, text books and transportation. All projects on the Aura’s House site are 100% US tax deductible.

“Jeinny is a bright, intelligent, seven year old. She is from one of the poorest neighborhoods in Honduras, in San Pedro Sula. Jeinny lives with her stepfather, mother and four siblings, the youngest one of which is only a year old. Jeinny’s stepfather, a day worker, contributes the only income to the family and brings home about $232 a month. That is about one dollar a day per family member. Prices for food and commodities have been on a steady rise all over the world during the last couple of years, and families like Jeinny’s are affected the most. Last year Children International reported that, at one point, Jeinny was enrolled in first grade, but had to drop out because her family could not afford the school fees of $211. That is almost all of the family income for the month. Jeinny has indicated that she would like very much to go back to school and learn. With everyone’s help, Jeinny’s fundraiser was completed and Jeinny has finished first grade successfully.
This year, the family will face the same choice or rather there will NOT be a choice. They simply cannot afford to send Jeinny back to school. It is not a question of dedication, parental duty or short-sightedness on the behalf of the parents. It is a question of survival. When there is not enough income for the mere basics, education and subsequently, the future well-being of the child takes second place to everything else.
This fundraiser was created to ensure that Jeinny goes back to school and has a chance for a brighter future.”
