This Project is now complete.  Launched September 27, 2011. Complete January 13, 2011.

Medical and Income Generation Project for Abraham (8) of Honduras

Our goal was to raise $870.

$870 raised! Thank you!

Abraham (8) is facing severe malnutrition due to his family’s lack of income.  Abraham’s father abandoned his family, leaving Floridalma, Abraham’s mother, to raise seven children on her own. The father is no longer supporting the family. He is living in another community and has a new family. Abraham’s mother’s only income comes from operating a small store out of her home, selling a few basic items to support her big family.  She can’t go to find work elsewhere because she has to stay home to care for her special needs daughter. Running a store from home is really her only option.  Unfortunately, her income has recently dropped to only $105 a month.  That leaves only about $13 per person a month, which is extremely low income for Central America.

It would greatly help the family if they were provided with vitamins, supplements and food for Abraham to improve in his health. Also this project aims to purchase items to sell in the store that would increase the family’s income and help Abraham’s mother to provide for her seven children.  Aura’s House would like to make sure that this family can generate more income to help themselves.  We aim to raise $870 to purchase the following gifts food basket, vitamins, supplements, staple grains, hygenic supplies, groceries, shelves, small freezer, sausages, drinks, and sodas.   All projects on the Aura’s House site are 100% US tax deductible.

Stay tuned for updates and photos.

Abraham (8)

Abraham's immediate family

Abraham’s mother is struggling to educate her children. Abraham’s older brother has already quit school and is working to help his mother with the store.  More than anything, Abraham’s sponsor, Inga, wants him to be able continue his education and go to school.  He is very intelligent and is an excellent student. With such limited income, there is not even enough money to feed the children so that in Abraham’s recent health report it appeared that he was severely malnourished and was enrolled in Children International’s feeding program.

The items that would be purchased to sell in the store and to restore health to Abraham are as follows:
Food basket
Vitamins
Supplements
Staple grains
Hygienic supplies
Groceries
Shelves
Small freezer
Sausages
Drinks
Sodas
Grand Total: $870.00

Abraham is the sponsored child of Aura’s House Partner, Inga Katelari of Cyprus.

Inga writes:

“I would like to introduce you to a very special child. His name is Abraham and he is my very first sponsored child through Children International (CI) whom I began sponsoring in early 2009 in memory of my grandmother.

Abraham is an active and smart eight-year-old boy who lives in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He lives with his mother and siblings and he is the youngest child in the family of seven children. He loves to play soccer and he always shares his games with siblings and little friends. He enjoys playing with toys and cars, painting and singing; he also loves animals, especially birds, lions, bears and dogs. He is attending 2nd grade of primary school and overall makes excellent marks and advanced educational progress! His favorite subject at school is Math and Art and he likes studying and reading very much. He is very intelligent and eloquent boy who writes some very sweet and detailed letters and sounds a very loving child.

Abraham’s biggest dream is to become a doctor to be able to help his mom. In his recent letter he says: “I would like to meet you, come to Honduras to meet each other and my heart will be very happy. I tell you that I want to become a doctor when I grow up. I hope to study so much and then to help my mom.”

I would like to do my best to make sure that this boy’s dream comes true someday! Thank you very much for your consideration. Any donation is greatly appreciated!”
