Mike Races 250K Across the Gobi Desert in China to Raise Funds for 400 Needy Kids

Mike EplerAura’s House Partner, Mike Epler has become quite the endurance and distance runner over the past few years. His latest and most challenging race is fast approaching on Sunday, June 10! The Gobi March (China) is part of the 4 Deserts series (RacingThePlanet) which was again named by TIME magazine as the #1 footrace in the world, and as one of the world’s top 10 endurance events.

Mike will be raising funds for our UALR Dental Project (USA) by running/walking 250K (that’s not a typo!) across the Gobi Desert from June 10-16, 2012. All the funds Mike raises will help 400 needy children in Little Rock, Arkansas get free preventive dental exams. Please consider showing Mike that you support his efforts to help the kids in Little Rock by making a small donation today. Every bit helps, even $1. He will be online most nights after the day’s race and your support will help him continue onward. Read our interview with Mike and check out his personal running blog.

Two Other Important Current Aura’s House Housing/Education Projects

  • Eber Danilo (8) lives in rural Guatemala in a one room home with his parents and two siblings.  The family’s home has a concrete floor and a corrugated metal roof.  This small space only fits two beds for five people. We aim to give this family more comfort, safety, and dignity by adding a room to their home. Learn more about this project.
  • Ada’s family home in Honduras is in grave need of roof repairs. There are several leaks and holes in the metal roof which cause the family problems during the rainy season. A new roof would help keep their possessions dry and safe while at the same time maintaining a healthier environment for the whole family. In addition to the roof repairs, Ada and her little sister Jenifer need school clothing and supplies for the upcoming school year. Learn more about this project.

Recently Completed Income Generation Projects

  • Thanks to your wonderful donations and support, Daniela and her family in The Philippines now have the supplies to open their own grocery store. Donations also went to the purchase of school supplies and household needs items. See photos and learn more.
  • Children International has purchased items from Aura’s House donations to sell in Abraham’s mother’s store in Honduras that would increase the family’s income and help her to provide for her seven children. See photos and learn more.

Aura is Graduating from CI’s Sponsorship Program and Two Birthdays

Time goes by so fast! On June 30th, Aura will turn 19 years old and The Aura’s House website will turn 8. Aura graduated from Secondary School and has earned her Teacher’s Certificate as well as a job teaching third graders near her village, thanks to Aura’s House donors. In addition, she will attend University within the next year. We are so proud of everything Aura has accomplished as well as what we’ve been able to do with our little website that bares her name. Read our tribute, Goodbye Aura here.

Thanks for checking in and hope to hear from you soon.

Best Wishes from Kristen, Anastasia, Mike, Christina, Courtenay, Heather, Inga, and the Aura’s House Team
