Tuition Project for Christopher (10) and Judy (9) of Zambia

Our goal was to raise $332.

$360 raised. THANK YOU!

Special Thanks to: Repeat Super-Donor, Elvis Kibiti for his $150 contribution that will also be matched by his employer.

Christopher (10) and his sister, Judy, (9) are orphans from Lusaka, Zambia and they are being raised by their aunt who has her own family. They live in extreme poverty and their aunt is unable to send Christopher and Judy to school. The fees for each child are $32 per semester with three semesters per school year and additional expenses totaling $166 per child. We aimed to raise $332 for tuition, uniforms, socks, text books, and book bags. All projects on the Aura’s House site are 100% US tax deductible.

See photos of Judy and Christopher with his gifts and read a letter of thanks.

Inga writes:

“Hello! I would like to introduce you to a very lovely child. His name is Christopher; he is a smart and handsome 10-year-old boy. Christopher has a sister named Judy, who is 9 years old. They live in Lusaka, Zambia and are sponsored through Children International (CI). Sadly, their mother died and father abandoned them when they were very young. They are currently being raised by their aunt – their only relative – who is extremely poor herself and who also has to provide for her own family.
After sponsoring Christopher in June 2009, I noticed that they lived off of $30 per month and that Christopher did not attend school due to the lack of money. From a follow up received from CI, I also found out that Christopher was enrolled in grade 1 for a very short while and then he was pulled out, as his aunt simply couldn’t afford to pay the school and enrollment fees. Thankfully, with the help of some wonderful friends, Aura’s House supporters and fellow group sponsors, we were able to keep Christopher and his sister Judy in school for three school years from 2011 – 2013.

Some time ago we inquired again whether Christopher and his sister would be able to continue their education for the 2014 school year but we were informed by CI that, unfortunately, it is impossible for Christopher’s aunt to send the children to school for the next year and that without help they simply can’t afford going back to school. We may take primary education for granted, without pausing to consider that primary school is not only about providing an education – it’s about providing a peer network, developing social skills, learning abilities and so much more. A child that is excluded from these benefits is going to fare so much worse in life than his or her peers. I sincerely hope that Christopher or Judy is not going to be one of these kids. Please consider giving Christopher and his sister a chance to continue their education!

Many thanks for all your help!

With all my best wishes,
Inga”
