Updates From Aura’s Elementary School Water Project -Guatemala

29 November 2013 3 Comments

Hi Everyone,

We recently received photos, updates, and a thank you letter from Children International for our recently completed Aura’s Elementary School Water Project. Thanks again to Aura’s House donors for making a difference in the lives of so many children as well as to their community.

Vickie Wiedenmann of Children International writes:

Hello, friends! I hope all is well with everyone. Thank you again for your warm friendship and incredible support of our programs around the world! I am delighted to tell you that the special project for which you raised funds in Guatemala is now complete — and the students of the elementary school now have running water and some new didactic materials to aid in their educational progress!

The new potable water supply that you and your donors funded is a HUGE benefit to everyone at the school … teachers, parents and children alike. Prior to the installation of the new pipes, faucets, etc. the children were asked to bring water from home each day to wash their hands and use the bathroom. With the new water supply, it is a much more sanitary environment for the children and much easier for everyone concerned!

The little ones were especially grateful for the crayons, markers, paper, glue, etc. that they received. You can see the sweet smiles on their faces in the enclosed photographs!

Some of the children also drew colorful pictures to share with you … and I’ll scan those and send them to you shortly. Aura Yesenia also wrote a letter of thanks for the support you provided the school. This is the school that she attended as a child, and also the same one where she worked when she first set the course to become a school teacher! I’ll send her letter to you as well.

I hope you enjoy the attached photos — and knowing how much your friendship and support means to these children, teachers, parents and everyone else in the community. We can’t thank you enough for your support and many, many efforts on behalf of the children in our program. All the best to everyone!

Thanks so much everyone for helping make this school better able to serve its students and their families!

Best wishes,
Kristen and the Team at Aura’s House

Wonderful news! It’s great to see the Guatemalan kids enjoying the convenience of running water and benefiting from more educational materials. There’s nothing like photographic proof!

This makes me even more eager to see the results of the just-funded Chimaltengo Guatemala Library Project.

So, I would love to know: how many weeks was it between the completion of the Guatemala Water Project and this post showing the results? Then I’ll be able to mark my calendar 😉

Just wondering: will you be having another raffle in the near future? I have heard that November-January is the optimal season for donations. It’s always fun to see what winners the tykes picked.

    Hi Sabrina,

Yes! We are working hard behind the scenes to first launch 1-3 new projects in the next week or two. Then we can launch the annual holiday raffle. Lukas and Nico will once again choose the winners.

As for getting updates…unfortunately there is no rhyme or reason to it because it depends on the speed of whatever it was we funded to be built or bought (like a house, water pump, IGP, etc) and then the speed of the local CI country office sending in the updates to the head office who then send the updates to us. Sometimes we get an update in a few weeks. Sometimes it’s a few months. The good news is we ALWAYS get updates though. And when we do it’s always a nice surprise. 🙂
