Birthday Raffle Winners Decide to Pay It Forward
It just goes to show that members of the Aura’s House community are some of the most generous people around.
Last week we held a drawing for our 10th Birthday Raffle. This week we have heard back from the winners and both of them have decided to pay their gifts forward!
Second prize winner, Luke Wood from New York, USA has decided to donate his $50 USD raffle prize to Anna Marie’s Education Project here at Aura’s House to ensure that she can continue her university education and help lift herself and her family out of poverty.
First prize winner, Sabrina Priebe from the San Francisco Bay Area, USA would like her $100 USD prize to go towards helping Paul, an orphaned boy she group-sponsors in Zambia via Children International who needs help with all the basics, including food, tuition, educational supplies, and clothing.
“When our group started sponsoring Paul, his family —including 3 younger cousins and a grandmother (the childrens’ primary caretaker) were living on only $10/month for a total of 8 people.
Paul did not get a chance to attend school until he was almost 12, and his early photos had few smiles. But his determination and hard work has advanced him now to 7th grade at the age of almost 15. That’s quite a leap for 3 years! It was when he reached 5th grade that he began smiling consistently—as if he now felt that a better future was within reach.
His family’s income had been up to $70 for a while, but now it is down to $38 for months, which is likely jeopardizing not only his education but also the ability to afford basic items such as food and clothing.
Also, if his grandmother dies or gets sick, then someone else must care for the kids, further reducing income prospects—and the cost of food has jumped, hitting the poorest the hardest.”
Visit Sabrina’s Firstgiving Fundraiser for Paul to see how you can help.
Thanks again to all who entered the raffle as well as all of you who are helping to make the world a little bit brighter every day for so many in need. It’s a pleasure to be in your presence, even in an online, abstract sort of way.
