Our goal was originally to raise $1,999. (But our emergency scaled-down goal was to raise $1,000, so Yacn can be allowed to sit for his exams in February and his tuition will be covered. Our deadline was December 12, 2014.)

$1,200.26 raised! -THANK YOU!

This project is now complete, however please consider helping another young person by donating to one of our current active projects.

Aura’s House is proud to be hosting a project for a young man named Yacn Biggo who plans to use his law education for the betterment of Tanzanian society.  Yacn has already successfully completed his first year at The University of Dar Es Salaam for a BACHELOR OF LAW (LL.B) degree and is currently in his second year. Unfortunately, if his tuition is not paid by the end of November (late December the very latest), his education will come to an end.  In order for Yacn to continue to attend The University of Dar Es Salaam, he will need your help.

When Aura’s House Partner, Heather LaBonte, asked Yacn why he wanted to study law, he replied “‘To become a successful lawyer who can help poor Tanzanian woman and children who are a vulnerable group and isolated  in our society. Most of the time they are denied their rights, for example the right to own property, inheritance, marital issues, right to work, and their liberty. I choose to study law because it’s easy to help people by knowing law especially vulnerable groups.”

We originally aimed to raise a total of $1,999 to fund the following elements of Yacn’s education: tuition, fees, books, housing, meals, and stationery.

Read more about Yacn in an earlier post where AH Partner, Heather, appeals to the community to help before this project was set up.

Project Breakdown:

Tuition & Fees = $1000
Books and Stationery = $150
Meals and Housing = $849

Total: $1,999

Yacn was first introduced to Aura’s House Partner, Heather LaBonte of California, USA. Read more about how the two met.

Yacn writes:

“Dear Donors,

In December of 2012, I had first conversed with Heather (one of AH’s partners) while she was doing charity work.  She asked me about helping children in my country by liking the Facebook page of ‘Saidia Watoto’ Cyprus project.  I became interested in what was going on to help the small, poor children in my country.  In Tanzania, education is taken as a luxury especially for women and children because they cannot access it easily. I have a great passion for helping women and children who are a vulnerable group in my country. When I complete my education (BACHELOR OF LAWS, LL.B), I expect to save many women and children in my country and change their lives through my area of expertise.

Before meeting Heather, my hopes and dreams were almost lost.  I was about to quit the university due to financial problems because my parents could not afford to pay university costs. She gave me hope and later with other friends helped to raise part of my school fees.  They rescued me from having to leave the school.  From that moment, I felt that there are people whom share my problems no matter whom they are or where they are.  This gives me a lot of hope and the great aspiration that my dream of becoming a lawyer and helping disadvantaged groups (women and children) in my country will be fulfilled as I have people who can support me. I believe that the destiny of many women and children in Tanzania is in the hands of youth like me.  I believe in education in the same way as the late Nelson Mandela when he states that ‘’education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’’

Love you all.

Best Regards,

Yacn Biggo.”

The situation is dire and for the first time in ten years, Aura’s House might not be able to help someone. Yacn wrote on December 5, 2014;

University administration allows me to continue with my first semester and also they allow me to do my Course work exams which comprise 40% of my entire first semester marks. Considering the fact that coarse work exams will start next week and we will have mid semester break which starts on 22 Dec and ends on 2 January 2015. However they will not allow me to do my university exams in February which comprise the remaining 60% marks to complete the whole semester.”

I hope we succeed in the next 3 days. No matter what though, ALL funds raised will go to Yasini Biggo for his education. Keeping our fingers crossed that he can continue University and not have to take any detours.

The Aura’s house web page popped up on my laptop this morning. I added some money to get this to $1000.
    Hope we made the deadline.

THANKS so much Jeff! I’m am going to mark this as completed. I believe we will not only have enough for tuition now, but also some of Yacn’s books and supplies, meals, and housing expenses as well. I’m just waiting on the final list from Heather (she is the owner of the Paypal account) and I will update the final totals ASAP. THANKS SO MUCH to everyone who helped make Yacn’s education possible.I’ll be emailing the rewards in the next 1-3 days.
