One Last Call to Action: Aura’s House Will Be Closing After Current Projects Fund

29 April 2015 No Comment

Dear Aura’s House friends,thank-you-different-languages2

I can’t believe that this day has finally come. Once our current three projects to help bright young minds in the Philippines, Tanzania, and India have funded, I will be archiving the site and saying farewell.

Back in 2004 when Aura’s House first launched, I wanted to tap into the power of the internet to see if I could raise $4500 for my sponsored child, Aura Yesenia (9) in Guatemala for a safe, sturdy brick home.

At that time, crowdfunding websites and tools didn’t yet exist so I clumsily created my own, fumbling my way through my first online fundraiser. It was SO much harder than I expected but with grit, stubbornness, and determination, I not only achieved but actually exceeded my goal.

I was encouraged by the friends I “e-met” along the way to continue and that’s what I’ve done for nearly eleven years now.  It has been my pleasure to help so many sponsors plan, create, and run their first fundraisers as well.

Through the power of small donations adding up over time from supporters like you who care about helping others gain access to housing, health, education, and opportunities, we’ve managed to raise well over $100K and have successfully funded more than 85 projects on five continents!

It’s time now for me to turn my attention to other projects and goals.  I’ll still be helping others learn to crowdfund through my top-rated online course, Crowdfunding Confidential: Raise Money For You & Your Cause (FREE coupon for the first 50 people visiting from Aura’s House) as well as through my blog and via personal coaching.  If you’d like help or just to stay in touch (please do!), sign up for my newsletter or drop me a line via my personal website: http://kpalana.com.

I’m incredibly grateful to have worked with you all over the years and I look forward to making a difference in other ways as well.  I’m excited to see what the future holds.  A million THANK YOUS for all you’ve done and all you continue to do on behalf of needy children.

Best wishes and with much love,
Kristen Palana

Please consider showing your support to
Aura’s House one last time by making a gift (large or small) to help Cheska, Parveen, or Yasini achieve their dreams for education and a better life. Every bit helps, even $1. Thanks!

Cheska (17) of the Philippines
Cheska has a dream of pursuing higher education so that she can earn a four year college degree in Financial Management to help lift herself and her family out of poverty. This project aims to raise one semester’s tuition and other costs to help make that dream become a reality.  Cheska is an extremely driven young woman who excels in sports and academics. We aim to raise a total of $1,109 to purchase the following items: tuition, school uniform, supplies, books, meals,  fees, and transportation. The funds must be raised by early May 2015 in order for Cheska to begin her studies in June 2015.  Please consider supporting this time-sensitive project so Cheska can start class on time!
Parveen (6) of India
Parveen lives in a one room home with a mud floor, and plastic sheeting walls with her parents and her seven siblings.  Her father is too ill to work so the family lives off of Parveen’s mother’s income which totals just $120 per month.  A few months ago, through no fault of her own, Parveen lost her previous sponsor through Children International and is now even more vulnerable than when we first started planning this project. Our goal is to raise a total of $1,000 to purchase the following items: start-up funds and support for a slipper business, a bike for Parveen to enable better transport to school, a food processor, and clothing. We also aim to find Parveen a new sponsor.  If YOU are interested in sponsoring Parveen call (1-800-888-3089) or email children@children.org with your name, account number (if you already have one, if not, they’ll need your home address), and Parveen’s name and ID number: 1251157.
Yasini “Yacn” (25) of Tanzania
Aura’s House is proud to be hosting another tuition project for Yacn Biggo who plans to use his law education for the betterment of Tanzanian society, particularly to help women and children.  Yacn has already successfully completed his 4th semester at the University of Dar Es Salaam for a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) degree.  Aura’s House is attempting to raise funds for Yacn’s 3rd year of university. From April 22 until May 12, 2015, the COM408 Media, Art, and Social Activism class at The American University of Rome will be raising funds for Yasini’s education via our mirror project at Indiegogo.com.  Aura’s House founder, Kristen Palana, has been teaching the class how to plan, create, and manage crowdfunding projects as part of their semester coursework.  Students in the course voted to make Yasini the recipient of any funds raised this semester.  Read more here about the class project. All donations of at least $10 to this project will automatically get an entry into our 11th Birthday Raffle.  There are other perks as well; please check it out!
