Our Small Projects Section features projects that cost about $500 or under. Together with interested Children International sponsors, we aim to raise funds for things like beds, tables, chairs, supplies, and more for needy families around the world. Small Project #20 launched August 31, 2008 Completed October 31, 2008.

Our goal
was to give Lesly Viviana Culajay Larios (7) and her family of Guatemala City, Guatemala the following gifts: a bunk bed for Lesly and her siblings, a bed for Lesly's mother, a wardrobe closet, a small table top stove, and bed linens. We aimed to raise $500. All donations are 100% US Tax Deductible. Stay tuned for photos and updates for this project.

SPECIAL THANKS: Thanks to longtime Aura's House donor Steven Krumholz, for his matching challenge that doubled donations up to his matching amount of $150. Steven was
a featured donor in our November 2006 Newsletter. Have a look.

The fundraiser for Small Project #20 is Diana Kane-Calvert of Massachusetts.

Diana writes,

"I fell in love with Lesly Viviana from the moment I laid eyes on her. It was a few days before Christmas 2004, and I had decided to give myself a present by fulfilling a long-held promise to myself. I had always wanted to sponsor a child, and I finally found myself in a place where I was able to do just that.

I looked through the waiting children on Children International's website and gravitated toward the pre-schoolers, because I worked with young children and enjoyed being able to watch them grow. Almost instantly, one little girl caught my attention. It was her brilliant smile and the glow in her eyes. I could tell that she was a happy child, full of spirit. I signed up as Lesly's sponsor right then and there.

I have had the pleasure of being Lesly's madrina, or godmother, for three-and-a-half years now, and it was by far the best Christmas gift I could ever have given myself--or her. She is my chiquita bonita. I have the satisfaction of knowing that I am making a difference to a special little girl, and helping her single mother provide her with a better quality of life than would be possible without sponsorship. She turned 7 on August 7th, and being able to raise these funds for her is the best birthday gift I can imagine!"

Our goal is $500 -- and the breakdown for each item is:

Bunk Bed (for Lesly and her siblings) - $140

Bed for Lesly's mother - $130

Wardrobe closet - $147

Small table-top stove - $63

Set of bed linens - $20

TOTAL - $500 (rounded up to nearest dollar)
